1st week in LA!

  Hey everyone!  I'm finally here at the mission. Well, I have been here, but this is the first opportunity I've gotten to write to you. I'm loving the people I'm with so far. On a random note first, I had a strange experience in the airport between my second flight. A guy sat down next to me while we were waiting to board, and so we got to talking about stuff, he complimented my shoes, I said something back. He then asked what I was dressed for, I told him I was going on a mission. I'm not really sure he completely understood because he just kind of said it's nice to have a purpose. I learned that the guy was actually from Roanoke and apparently has been all over. He told me about talking to people and how its good, especially with specific random people and he said something to the effect of: "I wound up in the middle of the desert one night then the next I'm on an Indian reservation. That's the thing about talking to the right people." He ...

  ¡Hola amigos!   This week has been an interesting ride for me. My district finally transitioned into all Spanish, so I've only been speaking Spanish in classes for the past few days. Definitely as hard as I expected it to be, but a great joy as well.  On another note, my older brother Fletcher came home from his mission and we were able to be companions for around 3 hours. It was a very fun reunion. (see pictures below.)   Something that stood out to me from my studies this week was that we as missionaries are taught to teach in the way that Jesus taught by asking questions, sharing stories, and expounding upon doctrines. An example of this is found in The Book of Mormon by a missionary named Ammon , he went to live among his enemies and asked to be a servant unto them. Because of his great Christlike service, the hearts of both the king and the people were softened and they desired to know how Ammon was and why he was...
